Phoenix Crest

The series title Sparrow Wars in the Garden of Bliss reflects how easily one can become a warrior, forgetting peaceful ways. The sparrows embody innocence and live in harmony, while the Ravens and Crows depict Greed and War, wreaking havoc, and destruction. Disputes fueled by deception, envy, and greed can escalate quickly, evolving from minor disagreements into breaking of relationships, enmity, and global conflicts.

The title also suggests how easily we might ruin our idyllic lives, (the Garden of Bliss). Comparing our ancient myths, legends, and religions wherein the ‘First Man and First Woman’ beguiled to sin, ruined the perfect world created for them. So, it is with the La Barre family’s Phoenix curse set upon their third sons. All may succeed in creative and fabulous ways or by their sins fail and combust. Vanity, Avarice, Lust, Thievery, and Deceit torment these special sons. But beware their actions and consequences can last generations.

The La Barre family’s motto defines their lifestyle, “Nous sommes contre les ventes”— “We fly against the winds.” With honor, love, loyalty, strength, and perseverance, they can rise like the Phoenix from the ashes of their ruin. Enter Barton Carl Barre, the last third son of three generations of lucky sons. The family hopes that Barton will uphold his family’s legacy through honorable actions and bring their curse to an end.

But is it Art?

s a life-long artist, I have seen much, aspired to much, and done much. I have painted, sketched, stippled (until my hand almost fell off), pasteled, watercolored and still I love to experiment with new mediums. At one point in my life I argued with myself that I wasn’t a painter, my heart wasn’t in it.
